Energy Risk Manager

Purpose of the role:

Experienced Energy Solutions (EES) is an established energy consultancy that is disrupting and challenging the way the energy market is operating and has large growth plans for 2025. 

As an Energy Trader, you will be responsible for buying and selling energy products such as electricity, natural gas, and renewable energy certificates in the wholesale market. The role involves monitoring market trends, analysing data, and making informed decisions to maximise purchasing decisions and minimise risks for our flexible energy clients. 

Knowledge of energy markets, as well as strong customer facing experience is key towards helping EES achieve their target of being the UKs go to energy partner.

The Energy Risk Manager position is of strategic importance and the role requires experienced individuals who can demonstrate the very best in Risk Management for our customers.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Market Analysis: Continuously monitor energy markets to identify trading opportunities. Analyse market data, supply and demand dynamics, and economic indicators to inform trading strategies.
  • Trading Execution: Execute trades in energy markets, including electricity, natural gas, and renewable energy certificates, based on market analysis and company strategies. Ensure timely and accurate completion of trades.
  • Risk Management: Work with our customers to create a robust risk management strategy whilst assess and mitigate trading risks. Monitor and manage the trading portfolio to ensure exposure is within the company’s risk tolerance levels.
  • Strategy Development: Develop and implement trading strategies to optimise the company’s energy portfolio. Adjust strategies based on market conditions and regulatory changes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with clients, sales and operations teams to ensure alignment on trading strategies and market positions. Collaborate with external stakeholders, including brokers and counterparties.
  • Compliance: Ensure all trading activities comply with relevant regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. Maintain accurate records of all transactions and ensure proper documentation.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on trading activities, market trends, and performance. Provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Technology Utilization: Utilize trading software and analytical tools to enhance trading efficiency and decision-making. Stay updated on the latest technology developments in energy trading.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in energy trading or a related field. Experience in electricity and natural gas markets is highly desirable.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to articulate trading strategies and market analysis to stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and accuracy in executing trades and maintaining records.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in trading platforms, analytical software, and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R is an advantage.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure in a fast-paced trading environment.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of relevant energy market regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Hours of Work: 5 hours per week. (Mon-Fri 9-5) with 30 mins lunch break each day (Not formal with lunch at all but contractually that’s how it works)
